Monika's Dagile Journey

Monika's Dagile Journey

Hello everyone,

This week we interviewed Monika Nawrot, Director at BWA (Europe) Ltd, about her recent experience of the Level 3 Unit in Leadership and Management.

BWA are chartered surveyors and building economists, specialising in independent consultancy advice on all financial and management aspects of providing and using land, buildings and facilities services.

Monika recently completed the Level 3 Unit in Leadership and Management and has been utilising the course to help her find her ground as a newly appointed Director.

Enjoy the interview…

Hello Monika, could you tell our readers a bit about yourself

Hello I am Monika and I work at BWA (Europe) Limited, a private practice of Quantity Surveyors and Building Economists. I was recently appointed in July 2022 as one of the Directors. My responsibilities cover the financial, HR, admin and accounting aspects of the company's operations.

You are clearly already very successful. Why did you feel the need to study a leadership course with Dagile?

In my new role, there are challenges that require skills which I can develop and acquire by attending relevant training and courses aimed at senior staff members. The Leadership & Management qualification was exactly what I needed to help me find my ground as a Director. I felt that it would teach me how to become a good leader and manager who can put in practice the knowledge gained on the Dagile course. I wanted to upgrade my skills and get familiar with what good leadership entails.

I also joined the course because I knew I could plan the lessons around my busy schedule, even though it would have also been nice to be in a room with other link-minded people.

What made you chose Dagile as a training provider?

The practicality of accessing the training material; the flexibility of attending the lessons and uploading assessments in my own time when it best suits my diary. I also had a positive experience (generally speaking) with LSBU, who were a preferred provider of Quantity Surveying study courses that BWA sponsored for our trainee employees over the years. Therefore, I was fairly sure that training delivered under the LSBU umbrella would be of good quality.

How did you find the course and it’s teaching?

As the course is pre-recorded and allows you to access the lessons at any time, it is perfectly suited to busy individuals. I specifically liked the idea that I could pause a lesson if I needed to, either to make notes or to think in peace and come back to it when needed. Also, there is enough additional reading and references to supplementary resources if I needed to research a subject further.

The tutor, Thomas Empson, provided comprehensive feedback, which I really appreciated as it helped me to progress and avoid making the same mistakes. The communication with Thomas was easy and friendly.

That is lovely to hear. Did the training help you develop new ideas for your company and have you had a chance to implement them?

I am more aware of management and leadership styles which make an impact on the decision making process, planning, delegating tasks and supporting employees’ career progression. I am certain I will have many more opportunities to put in practice what I have learned on this course.

Do you think the training will enhance your career prospects?

I definitely feel more confident as a manager and better understand various leadership styles, as well as the difference between management and leadership. I believe that the knowledge gained during this course is something I will benefit permanently from, so in that sense it can only help my career progression.

Do you have any final thoughts to share?

If possible, I would like more similar courses available.

Thank you so much for your time Monika. Do keep an eye on South Bank Innovations (SBI) for future funded project like Dagile.

We are grateful to Monika for sharing her Dagile experience with us and wish her every success for the future.
