Shirley’s Story

Shirley’s Story

Shirley Amatsakio is turning her martial arts hobby into a business – applying what she’s learnt through Dagile’s Award in Digital Marketing (Level 2) to promote her new venture.

As  the founder of Qigong London, Shirley is a Qigong instructor. Qigong is a martial art that promotes wellbeing and balance. One of the places Shirley runs classes and one-to-one tuition is from the Academy Dance Mews Studio, and Dagile is helping her visualise how she can expand her reach through targeted marketing into other parts of London and into a variety of classes and workshops.

We caught up with Shirley to explore how she’s getting on, and how Dagile built on her confidence and ability to train others.

Can you tell our readers who you are and what you do?

My name is Shirley, and I work as a Tutor in a community college in London. I am also a Martial Arts Instructor.

Why did you join our Digital Marketing (level 2) course?

Being a Martial Arts Instructor has always been a hobby of mine, but I wanted to expand my ability to offer support to even more people to stay healthy, manage stress and improve their focus.

Dagile was recommended by one of my managers at work. I thought Digital Marketing would upskill me and channel my passion into a business.

What was your experience of the course?

Excellent. I love my tutor’s style of teaching, his pace and humour. Sometimes, the amount of learning material was overwhelming, but my tutor explains everything in a way, so I understand.

What I love about the online learning is that I felt like I was in the classroom (video recorded lessons). And the feedback I received from my tutor was detailed and personal. He made me enthusiastic about discovering more in the next units of my course.

My plans to expand my business activities felt for that reason more realistic, practical.

Has training helped you build new ideas for your business?

Yes, absolutely, and I have already implemented most of them. With each submitted assignment I received feedback that gave me more ideas. The course helped me to improve my areas of development and focus on opportunities.

I do believe that it gave me the knowledge and skills needed to progress my business and career.

Have there been other benefits you weren’t expecting?

It also gave me a boost of confidence and planted the thought that what I would like to happen is not impossible.

We’re grateful to Shirley for sharing her story and experience of Dagile! We wish her every success for the future and look forward to seeing her digital marketing skills go from strength to strength – just like her martial arts students.
